I’m quickly closing in on 50,000 subscribers on YouTube—and I’m beyond thrilled. Over half a million views each month and climbing fast! Honestly? It feels like a big responsibility sleeping with this many people around the world every night… but I’m up for the task 😄
Anyhoo… Back to the newsletter…
Have you ever found yourself saying “yes” when every part of you wanted to say “no”?
Maybe it was agreeing to a meeting that didn’t need to happen. Or offering help when your tank was already empty.
We’ve all done it.
But here’s the truth: every time we say ‘yes' to something that drains us, we’re often saying ‘no' to ourselves. And that sneaky pattern—of self-abandonment disguised as being helpful—can lead to resentment, burnout, and a growing disconnect from our own needs.
This week, we’re exploring the often-overlooked power of saying ‘no'.
And if you need help switching off at night? My new Deep Sleep Hypnosis video below is here to guide you into effortless sleep.
Why Saying No Is So Hard (And Why It Matters)
Many of us were raised to be agreeable. To be helpful. To keep the peace.
And saying no? That felt risky–like we might lose love, respect, or connection.
So we became yes-people. Reliable. Likeable.
Exhausted.
Somewhere along the way, saying yes became our default setting–even when it meant sacrificing our time, our energy, or our own needs.
Because we told ourselves it was the right thing to do.
Because we didn’t want to upset anyone.
Because “no” felt too sharp. Too final. Too uncomfortable.
When we say yes from a place of fear, guilt, or obligation, we slowly chip away at our clarity, our confidence, and our sense of self.
And this pattern doesn’t magically vanish as we get older. It follows us into our careers, our relationships, our parenting—anywhere we’re afraid of being misunderstood, judged, or not needed.
But saying no—kindly and clearly—isn’t selfish. It’s a form of self-respect.
And like any skill, it gets easier with practice. Saying no is a muscle, and when you strengthen it, you’re not pushing people away; you’re protecting the parts of you that matter most.
Practical Tips for Honouring Your ‘No'
1. Use Time as a Buffer - Instead of responding on the spot, say, “Let me check my schedule and get back to you.” This gives you breathing room to make a decision from clarity rather than pressure.
2. Identify Your “Yes Zones” - Make a quick list of what you do want to say yes to—projects, people, or practices that energise you. This helps you spot when something falls outside of that zone.
3. Don’t Apologise for Your "No" - It’s tempting to pad your “no” with a long explanation or apology. You don’t need to. A respectful no holds more power when it’s simple and confident.
4. Watch for Subtle Overcommitments - It’s not always big asks. Notice the small, sneaky yeses—checking messages late at night, saying yes to “just a quick call.” These add up. Spotting them early helps you reclaim time and energy.
