There's no perfect house

I moved house yesterday. From Sydney up to the Central Coast.

And here's the thing I've realised about the choices we make… there's no such thing as a perfect decision.

I keep waiting to feel one clean thing about the move. Instead, I got excited and sad… all day, taking turns.

On the plus side, the gains are fantastic. More space. More nature. Room to breathe. I'm closer to my best friend and my two godsons. I have an actual dedicated space to film more content and do regular livestreams, instead of rearranging my lounge room and setting up cameras, lights and microphones for three hours every time I want to film something!

And for the first time, I've got the room to build the course I've wanted to make for years. A proper home for this work. Not just emails you read on your own, but somewhere we do this together, properly… I'll say more when it's ready.

But every gain has a bill attached.

I'm further away from my closest friends in Sydney.

My 17-year-old daughter will no doubt stay with me less than she used to.

The easy, unplanned lunches, the "I'm ten minutes away, put the kettle on", those are mostly gone.

Except. Even with that there's a plus side.

I'll see those friends less often, but I think I'll see them better. Nobody drives ninety minutes for a quick coffee. They'll come for the weekend. We'll get the long, slow, late-night version of each other instead of the rushed one.

Less often. More deeply. I guess both can be true at once.

So here's the thing I'd love to pass on, especially if you're standing at the edge of your own big decision.

There's no perfect house, no perfect job, no perfect move. There's no version where you get the whole list and pay nothing for it.

We waste so much time hunting for the option with no downside, then feel like we failed when the downside finally shows up.

But the ache isn't proof you chose wrong. It's proof it mattered.

You're allowed to grieve what you let go of and be glad you went. Both at once. That's not you being indecisive. That's you being honest about the size of what you did.

So I'm sitting in a half-unpacked house tonight, a bit lonely, a bit excited, surrounded by boxes, trees, quiet, and possibility. And honestly? That feels about right.

If you're somewhere similar, sitting with a choice that gained you one thing and cost you another, hit reply and tell me what you're weighing up. I read every email.

And one more thing before you go. I have a sleep meditation for exactly the nights when your mind won't put down what you've had to let go of (I'll be listening to Chibs tonight haha). It's called You're Allowed to Let It Go Now, and you can listen here 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
